GRICE E FORTUNIO

Giovanni Francesco Fortunio (c. 1470–1517) was born in Pordenone , a town which until 1508 was ruled by the Holy Roman Emperor.    Other than his seminal work, Regole grammaticali della volgar lingua (1516), his only other known publication is an eclogue (a pastoral poem) titled Amonio et Egialo. He was primarily known as a civil lawyer and jurist, and his grammatical work grew out of his personal study of great Italian authors like Dante, Petrarch, and Boccaccio. He was also known for some poetic activities, although most of his work as a poet is no longer extant. He did not have any other book of his printed during his lifetime.
