Girolamo Muzio was born in Padua, in the Republic of Venice, on March 12, 1496. His family was originally from (modern-day ), where he returned in 1504 after his father's death.

Besides his famous work Battaglie per difesa della italica lingua (often titled simply as Battaglie), which defended the use of the Italian language against Latin, Muzio wrote several other volumes of poems, controversial treatises, and other works.
